|Presentation:||Cyber Security in a World with Professional Attackers|
| ||The cyber security market is a $70 billion market that is expected to grow to $120 billion in the next five years. Yet despite the size and maturity of this industry the cyber security market is in chaos today with attackers seemingly penetrating any organization they set their sites on. The reason for this chaos is the rise of professional attackers over the last several years. Simply put, they know how to bypass the most common security mechanisms and then operate in the shadows of an organization, sometimes for years. This talk will look at how easy it is for an attacker to penetrate an organization, operate undetected, and even cross your air gap to reach your most sensitive systems and data.|
| ||Todd Heberlein received his Bachelors in Computer Science and Math from the University of California at Davis in 1988 and his Master in Computer Science from the University of California at Davis in 1991. He is the founder and president of Net Squared, Inc.|
Mr. Heberlein pioneered the field of network-based intrusion detection, designing and developing the original UC Davis Network Security Monitor (NSM), the first widely deployed network-based intrusion detection system. The sensor served as the foundation for the United States Air Force’s Automated Security Incident Measurement (ASIM) global sensor grid, and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) deployed the NSM under the name Joint Intrusion Detection System (JIDS).
Currently Mr. Heberlein is focused on audit trail analysis. He developed Audit Explorer and Audit Viewer tools and is currently working on the Free Audit Aggregation System (FAAS) to help organizations meet their FISMA requirements.
