“GAISP Update”

October 2003
Morey Straus
Newsletter Editor
Sacramento Valley ISSA

(The development of best practices for our industry, under the moniker GAISP (Generally Accepted Information Security Principles) is underway at ISSA. Committee chairman Michael Rasmussen has provided an update on the selection process and schedule. The original GAISP announcement and background is available at http://www.issa.org/gaisp.html.)

From Michael Rasmussen...

We have received over 200 applicants. Applicants will be selected based on experience and commitment. Selected volunteers will be announced in the middle of October.

For the selected volunteers, there will be a GAISP development kickoff event as a pre-conference activity in conjunction with the CSI conference in November.

An updated Pervasive Principles/Broad Functional Principles and Project Overview is targeted to be published by the end of October or early November.

Significant work has been done in building an online knowledge management system that will facilitate the global collaboration of this effort. It is important to note that access to this system will be restricted to active GAISP volunteers (actively contributing to the GAISP content).

The first publishing of the draft detailed principles is scheduled for end of Q1 2004. The electronic version of the published documents (draft and final) will be available free of charge, people will be able to purchase hard copies of the published documents. Access to the GAISP portal environment will be available for a fee, with the funding generated to be used to provide ongoing support of the GAISP knowledge base.

Further requests for information or other inquiries on the GAISP efforts can be forwarded directly to Michael Rasmussen. He can be reached at [address removed].
